Cold rooms refer to any space that requires carefully regulated temperature. Cold rooms typically refer to restaurant freezers, cold storage factories or warehouses, and other similar facilities. Most common cold rooms tend to regulate temperatures up to 11℃. Common items being stored include perishable food, biopharmaceutical products, pharmaceutical products, tobacco, certain textiles, artworks, rare books, flowers, and delicate plants.

A cold room is typically built with insulated walls, ceilings, and flooring using foam, cardboard, or any other similar materials. It is then installed with compressors, condensers, fans, and evaporators, each working in tandem. The process starts from compressing the gas from a gas refrigerant in the compressors to releasing the evaporated coils from energy absorbed from the gas refrigerant to liquefy and freeze the air.
To keep the cold room running year-round, the gas refrigerant generally needs to be replenished every few months or so, depending on how big your cold room is and the volume of gas refrigerant you are currently using.
To function properly, cold rooms are constantly going through chemical processes to liquefy the air and freeze them. This means that not only are there always chemical byproducts present in your cold room that can cause odour, but it also means that your cold room has a higher risk to have a mould infestation.
